J Benjamin Weeks // Camera Dude
My passion and love for "all things media" began as a young boy in the 4th grade when I made my first stop-motion film using a stationary 8mm camera. I then discovered our family's Polaroid camera and our super 8mm home movie camera (with sound!). I quickly learned the power of a picture. From there, I made my best attempts at shooting everything from science fiction shorts to school projects featuring the Miami Vice soundtrack. Let's just say I was hooked.
My career path in media production really took off on the very first day as a young and naive freshman student working for my college campus television station. By learning the basic foundations to quality storytelling, linear tape editing, and equipment maintenance, I started out on a solid path to success. How could anything go wrong when my first computer-based video editing system was called the Video Toaster? :) And yes, that was a real thing.
Along with video, my love for photography grew with my first "real" camera purchase - the original Canon Rebel. Starting with Photography 101 and learning to develop and process my own film in our photo lab, I was once again given the tools to grow and achieve. I'll never forget the value of learning the basic skills of proper exposure, cropping, and dodging an image to get just the right look.
Through this passion for all things media, came the formation of the parent company to J Benjamin Creative - Slang Creative - a video and photography storytelling collective. Over the years, I've primarily produced video for the corporate market, broadcast television, manufacturing facilities, non-profits, and ministries.
This solid foundation started my 30+ year career that has produced hundreds of hours of video and thousands of pictures. On this site I've put together a small sampling of images and videos, and I hope you enjoy this journey inside "my world" - I know I sure have!
